Not Tortoises
You might have thought that this creature, the glyptodon, is related to turtles or tortoises, but this is not the case as they are in no way connected. However, they do share similar features, such as the shell that they sport on their backs. Interestingly, glyptodons can pull in their feet under their shells as tortoises do, but unfortunately, they cannot pull in their heads completely. Another intriguing fact about these creatures is that they were not amphibians or lizards, either. So, what exactly were they?
