Just what had caused their new family member to act so unusually? Perhaps there was some creature hidden up in the branches of the trees, like a rare or exotic animal. Dogs certainly become hysterical when an animal chitters at them from far out of their reach. The Smiths scoured the looming trees above, but nothing was hiding in the barren autumn branches. The Smiths could not figure out what their pooch had become so obsessed with.

It seemed like something potentially dangerous was lurking in the Smiths’ area, something that they had failed to pick up on all this time. Kyle’s anxiety was starting to rub off on his family as they feared what he might uncover. If this mystery was heavy enough to cause a veteran police dog this much concern, it had to be radical. The Smiths were not police officers, however, and if anything dangerous lay ahead, they were ill-prepared for it.
