Ok, so we need to be clear here. If you have a fire – phone emergency services immediately! Do not faff about with any quick fixes or home hacks. This tip is for small, controlled fires only. Should you have a small, controlled burst of flame you need to douse, then baking soda has you covered. For that occasion that you have an otherwise completely safe and controlled fire you can put out, here’s what you do: you chuck bicarb over it and it should be out in a tick.
