An Ambush at Methvin’s
When Methvin was captured for the death of a police officer in Oklahoma, Bonnie and Clyde decided to hide in plain sight, taking refuge at his father’s farm. Methvin’s father knew he had a bargaining tool to use with the police, so in a bid to get a more lenient sentence for his child, he helped to arrange an ambush with the police for 23 May 1934.
The sting was set up in a particular way, with Methvin’s father appearing to be stuck on the side of the road with a broken down vehicle. As the couple approached him, they stopped to help him, but as soon as they were about to get out of the car, the authorities surrounded them and to the surprise of Methvin’s father, opened fire.
