Mark Realized The Sheep Had Warned Them First
Mark screamed for Davis and Miller to move. The wind was rising fast now, turning from a gust into a roaring wall of air. The two rangers burst out of the barn and looked up at the swirling clouds forming above the ridge. Mark shouted that the sheep had been standing directly in the touchdown zone. There was no time to reach the lower trailhead.
The three men rushed back into the heavy timber barn, pulled the oak door shut, and dropped the iron latch into place just as the storm hit. Outside, the wind became a deafening roar. Dust and debris slammed against the wooden walls, and the beams groaned under the force. Only minutes earlier, everyone had thought the sheep were acting strangely for no reason. Now Mark understood the truth. The animals had sensed the danger before any person or radar warning reached the meadow, and their strange behavior may have saved everyone who had been standing there.
